Our award-winning Glow Winter Arts Festival was back in 2016, bigger and better than ever.
Embracing the strong artistic communities of Stonnington, with everything from comedy clubs to cinema, theatre, roving performers and live music, the diverse program offered something for arts lovers of all ages with free and ticketed events taking place on rooftops, in intimate spaces and traditional theatres.
The festival art installations included:
Flicks ‘n’ Feasts has become a staple of the Glow line up, bringing four nights of themed FREE open-air cinema to Market Lane (next to Prahran Market). Delicious offerings from Melbourne’s favourite food vans will be themed to match screenings of popular cult films such as Gremlins (1984), Labyrinth (1986), Roman Holiday (1953), and BMX Bandits (1983).
Dilruk Jayasinha was MC on all three evenings, fresh off the back of his sold-out shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The outstanding line-up included Claire Hooper, Michael Chamberlin, Tom Gleeson, Tegan Higginbotham, Luke McGregor and Geraldine Hickey.
Greville Projections, run by the team behind Gertrude Street Projection Festival, illuminated the nooks and crannies of Greville Street with visually striking projections. Fairy Turner, Ian de Gruchy, Kate Geck and Nick Azidis all exhibited work.
City of Stonnington streets came alive with a performance for Arts Burst, where live theatre and roving acts surprised and delighted passers-by with a vibrant and eclectic display that weaved through the streets after dark.
The diversity of entertainment included giant hairy snails and their riders in Gastropodia, and Get Down and Dirty, a trio of sexy construction workers.
Award winning design practice, ENESS, teamed up with DJs and bands to serve up a feast of multi-sensory delights for Particle Bloom. Set to live music (selected shows only), Particle Bloom took us on a pleasure excursion of stereoscopic 3D visuals that blew our minds. 3D glasses were provided at the door.
